Homemade Deodorant can be a good alternative to conventional sprays and roll-ons. It is also a good way to reduce plastic waste and exposure to chemicals in your toiletry products.
It is a very simple process, quick to make and most of all, it is also cheap. You will only need three ingredients plus water.
I have reused an old refillable plastic container for my purposes which contains about 100 ml. Simply unscrew the top and get going. Have a saucepan and a whisk at the ready on the hob.
And here is the ingredients’ list:
- 100 ml of water
- 1-2 tsp Potato Starch
- 2 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
- 5 drops essential oil of your choice
Whisk water and starch together in the saucepan. Bring the mix to the boil until all dissolved. Take it off the heat and stir in the Bicarbonate of Soda until dissolved. Let it cool down to room temperature, then add the drops of essential oil.
Don’t be put off by the vegetable starch. It just gives the deodorant a gel-like substance and smells completely neutral. Bicarbonate of Soda neutralises your body odour and the essential oils just jazz it up a bit.
Always test it on the inside of your wrist before use and take care after shaving in case of skin irritations or allergies.
Please do let me know how this works for you!
